Professional Experience

Through the Wits Mining Institute and School of Mining Engineering (Wits University) Professor Cawood has dedicated much of his life to mining education and research into state-of-the-art twenty first century mining. He has assisted the South African Government on mineral/royalty law and policy matters. Extending his expertise beyond South Africa, he has been involved in country mining and fiscal policy development/analysis for Namibia, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe as well as large entities such as the World Bank, UNECA, and SADC. His experience includes strategy, risk and Techno-Economic-Law studies along the mining value chain.

Now with Minserv CC, he is delivering mineral development and research services in a developing country context.  He is a convener of specialised seminars and workshops for problem-solving outcomes within the mining sector and has a passion for accelerated vocational learning and skills development for workplace readiness.
